Info about Crossing the Border
You drive through Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where you cross into the Canadian Sault. From there it is only 190 miles, about three and a half hours to Chapleau. From the Canadian Sault you have two choices.
Option one which we recommend: Take Highway 17 North to Wawa and then Highway 101 East to Chapleau.
Option two is more tiring because the road is narrow and crooked in many places. You would take Highway 17 East to Thessalon and then Highway 129 North to Chapleau.
We do not recommend Highway 556 from Sault Ste. Marie past Ranger Lake to Highway 129. It is a gravel road, can be quite rough and will cost you much time and maybe the price of a new muffler. The other roads that we recommend are excellent and all paved.
By Airline
If you live so far away from Chapleau that driving is impractical, you might consider traveling by commercial airline. Coming from the U.S., you can fly to the Sault. Ste Marie Michigan Chippewa County Airport. It is in the little town of Kincheloe, MI., just south of the Sault. There, you can have a rental car waiting and make Chapleau in a four hour drive. Last we checked, there were two car rental agencies at in the Sault airport terminal. They were AVIS 1-906-495-5900 and HERTZ 1-906-495-5190.
Once you are in Chapleau
You can easily find our boat house. You will come over a high over-pass to reach the main part of town. Turn left as soon as you have crossed this over-pass, onto Pine Street. Drive along Pine Street for three blocks to Aberdeen Street and turn left again. We are at the north end of Aberdeen. The building has green and brown shingles on the walls and a metal roof.

Coming from Southern Ontario
You will head north on Hwy. 69 to Sudbury and then west on Hwy. 17 until you reach Thessalon. From Thessalon you take Highway 129 north.
There is a shortcut which most people take. Once you are in Sudbury you also have another option. You can take Highway 144 North in the direction of Timmins. About three fourths of the way along Highway 144, before you reach Highway 101, you will see a logging road with public access which heads west towards the town of Sultan. This is 30 miles of gravel road but usually in good condition.
